Stine Aas & Tekla Evelina Severin: their collaboration for the young brand Bebò Objects.
Hi Stine, Tekla, can you introduce yourself ?
Stine Aas is based in Bergen and is working as a furniture and product designer, designing simple, usable furniture and products with a bold and playful character. Tekla Evelina Severin is a multidisciplinary designer and colorist based in Stockholm known for her strong color compositions and graphically playful, often monochrome, expression. This is their first collaboration.
Can you introduce "Trolley"?
Trifle is a bar trolley with three removable trays in ash wood. The trays can be used on the kitchen counter to arrange food or on the table as serving plates. In the process we were highly inspired by layered food and dumpling steamers and the finished trolley you can see a bit of both. Actually, the name Trifle is also an English dessert with three layers. The three repetitive trays in strong colors are creating a color blocking that can be combined in multiple ways.
How did you get the idea to collaborate on this project?
Tekla was contacted by the new brand Bebò and Tekla immediately thought of asking Stine Aas if she wanted to do this as a collaboration. Our brief was to design a trolley and immediately we wanted to do something graphic, stylistic yet playful.
Bebò is a new brand, can you tell us more about it?
Bebò is a new brand of furniture that offers minimalistic furniture that is blending indoor and outdoor environments. The target is to bring the inside out and the outside in, extending the seasons and enabling a greater well-being. The idea is to get more out of a single piece by offering flexibility and freedom to make them more useful and valuable. It's been very rewarding to be a part of the journey of a new brand, and we hope to create more pieces together.
How long did it take to develop Trifle?
We started the sketching process in April last year and presented the prototype in Stockholm exactly a year later.
A designer or artist who inspires you?
Tekla: So many, Nathalie Pasquier, Karin Mamma Andersson, Studio Pepe, - among others
Stine: Philippe Malouin, Magali Reus, Pettersen & Hein to mention a few.
A design place to visit in your respective cities?
Haha, not really. I won a small amount of money that allowed me to reimburse the costs invested in the prototype.
A design place to visit in your respective cities?
Tekla in Stockholm: Millesgården is a great visit, they have both exciting contemporary exhibitions as well as showing their heritage, the beautiful home of Carl Milles and Olga, otherwise I would recommend Esteriör and Stockholm modern, both eclectic, interesting and artminded small interior shops
Stine in Bergen: I would recommend visiting Kiosken which is a small shop and multidisciplinary exhibition space that I run together with fashion designer Siv Støldal, curator Daniela Ramos Arias and graphic designer Ann Kristin Stølan in C Sundts Gate 36.
